Informal Rhythmic Italic
Presented by Sharon Zeugin
I will give a brief overview of Italic history and modern variations focusing on the underlying architecture of the script. A “Forest for the Trees Approach” will be the focus as we engage in a toes up/standing up rhythm exercise. We’ll translate to our paper—then move into an informal cursive italic. I will break down the “trees” or letters and go for stroke order and sequence. We can practice with pangrams: A quick red fox, etc. Italic handwriting is easier than the Palmerian method taught here—more legible and beautiful, I believe. Handouts will include an example of a historical and modern cursive script, my own version and some helpful handouts about joining letters. The aim is to help anyone incorporate an informal italic into their everyday use.
